What this boat is
The Riva 86 Domino is a 26.4-metre planing sports yacht that combines an enclosed, air-conditioned main deck with outdoor seating on three levels. Built in Italy from 2009 to 2015, it accommodates eight guests in four cabins and suits owners seeking fast coastal passages, sociable day cruising and overnight accommodation without the profile of a conventional flybridge yacht.
The model in detail
Introduced at Cannes in September 2009, the Riva 86 Domino extended the sporting concept of the 63 Vertigo and 68 Ego Super into a larger, four-cabin yacht. Mauro Micheli and Officina Italiana Design shaped its exterior and interior, working with Riva’s engineering team. Built at La Spezia, it measures 26.4 metres overall with a 6.2-metre beam. The launch appearance paired Metallic Ice paint with extensive glazing, polished stainless steel and teak decks.
The enclosed main deck combines saloon seating and a dining area, with a television partition separating these spaces from the raised, three-seat helm. Large side windows and the windscreen bring daylight through the interior. A lifting aft glass panel and adjacent sliding door connect the saloon with the cockpit. Separate stairways beside the helm lead to the lower galley and guest accommodation, keeping food preparation apart from the guest corridor.
Eight guests sleep in four lower-deck cabins. The full-beam owner’s suite sits amidships beneath substantial hull windows and includes seating, wardrobe space and a private bathroom. A double VIP occupies the bow, with two twin cabins between it and the master. The port twin’s sliding berths can form a double. There are four guest bathrooms; the starboard twin’s bathroom also serves as the day head. Separate aft crew accommodation has two cabins, a shared bathroom and a small mess.
Outdoor areas comprise an aft cockpit with dining for six, a foredeck seating and sunbathing area, and a low-profile sundeck integrated into the coachroof. This upper level carries a second helm and a three-person sunpad with an adjustable backrest. The stern includes a tender garage and bathing platform. Equipment includes hydraulic bow-thruster assistance, twin generators and air conditioning; stabilisation systems and later upgrades differ between individual yachts.
Twin MTU 16V 2000 M93 diesels develop 2,435 hp each, driving conventional propeller shafts through V-drive gearboxes rather than surface drives. Published performance is 34 knots cruising and 38 knots maximum, with a range of approximately 335 nautical miles. Fuel capacity is 7,500 litres and freshwater capacity 900 litres. The GRP hull and superstructure use a planing design with a relatively shallow 12-degree aft deadrise. Load, hull condition and sea state affect achievable speed and range.
Production continued through 2015, with approximately twenty hulls completed before the 88 Domino Super succeeded it. The successor is a separate model, introducing revised hull glazing, a redesigned sundeck and substantial stern changes. The original 86 combines fast harbour-to-harbour operation with accommodation for extended coastal holidays. Independent cockpit access to the crew quarters and engine room supports crewed use while separating service circulation from guest spaces.

Twin 2,435 hp MTU 16V 2000 M93 engines provide a published cruising speed of 34 knots and a maximum of 38 knots. Published range is approximately 335 nautical miles, with actual results dependent on loading, conditions and machinery condition.
It accommodates eight guests in four cabins: a full-beam master, a forward double VIP and two twins. The port twin can convert into a double, and there are four guest bathrooms, one also serving as the day head.
The design allows for owner operation but also provides separate aft crew quarters with two twin-berth cabins, a shared bathroom and a compact mess. Actual crewing requirements depend on registration, operating area and whether the yacht is used privately or commercially.
Riva built the 86 Domino at La Spezia in Italy. Officina Italiana Design, led by Mauro Micheli and Sergio Beretta, created its exterior and interior styling, with engineering and naval architecture by Riva.
No: the 86 Domino was produced from 2009 to 2015, while the 88 Domino Super debuted in May 2015 as its successor. The later yacht introduced a redesigned sundeck, longer continuous hull glazing and a revised stern with a submersible bathing platform.
