The Astondoa AS8 is a Spanish-built flybridge motor yacht combining four guest cabins, extensive outdoor seating and a customisable interior. Introduced in 2020, it offers buyers an alternative to more standardised production yachts, with choices in furnishings and accommodation arrangements. Its separate crew quarters and twin MAN V12 engine options support both extended stays aboard and fast coastal cruising.

The model in detail

Astondoa presented the AS8 at its Santa Pola shipyard near Alicante on 1 October 2020, following an announcement earlier that year. The approximately 25-metre flybridge yacht introduced a contemporary design direction, with extensive hull glazing and angular exterior detailing. Astondoa Group is responsible for its engineering and the model’s in-house design concept.

Construction centres on a GRP hull with a V-shaped planing form. Published specifications give an unloaded displacement of approximately 56 tonnes, fuel capacity of 6,200 litres and freshwater capacity of 1,100 litres. Carbon-fibre elements include the exterior handrails; detailed specifications also describe GRP and carbon-fibre construction in the superstructure.

The main deck places the galley forward beside the lower helm, leaving the aft section for a substantial saloon and dining area. Astondoa describes this living space as approximately seven metres long, with broad windows and low side structures improving outward visibility. Finishes described at launch include matt timber, shaped white lacquer surfaces and leather panels made at the yard.

Below deck, the standard arrangement accommodates eight guests in four en-suite cabins. A full-beam owner’s suite is complemented by a forward VIP and two guest cabins, with twin or double arrangements available. The shipyard announced two owner’s-cabin configurations from the outset. Two additional cabins provide separate accommodation for up to four crew, rather than adding to the standard guest capacity.

Outdoor areas extend across the aft cockpit, foredeck and flybridge. At the stern, a glazed balustrade and stepped connection link the cockpit visually with the bathing area. Side decks lead to bow seating and sunbathing spaces. The flybridge can be furnished to suit the owner; documented equipment includes an optional hardtop with opening slats, a bar, refrigeration and a grill.

The original standard propulsion package comprises two MAN V12-1600 diesels, with twin MAN V12-1900 engines offered as an alternative. Published figures indicate approximately 32 knots maximum and 26 knots cruising, with a quoted cruising range of 400 nautical miles. Detailed specifications identify conventional shaft drives; actual performance depends on engine choice, loading and conditions.

Personalisation has been part of the AS8 programme since launch, rather than a feature confined to a later edition. Documented examples carry hydraulic bathing platforms, fin stabilisers, bow and stern thrusters, twin generators and tropical air conditioning. These features, together with separate crew accommodation, support a cruising programme combining overnight stays, outdoor entertaining and tender use, although equipment must be checked against each yacht’s individual specification.
