What this boat is

The Okean 55 Sport is a 16.45-metre open motor yacht designed by Paolo Ferragni and built in Brazil by OKEAN Yachts; “Brésilien” describes its origin rather than its shipyard. Introduced in 2018, it combines extensive outdoor entertaining areas with overnight accommodation, making it particularly relevant to buyers seeking a sociable dayboat that can also support short coastal stays. Its defining feature is a pair of hydraulic side terraces that enlarge the deck at anchor.

The model in detail

The Okean 55 Sport made its international debut at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, held from October 31 to November 4, 2018. Built by Brazil’s OKEAN Yachts, rather than a shipyard named Brésilien, it was conceived by Italian designer Paolo Ferragni. Its low windscreen, angular profile and open stern distinguish it from the builder’s flybridge yachts. Published dimensions give a length overall of 16.45 metres and a beam of 4.77 metres.

The main deck centres on outdoor living. Hydraulic hullside panels lower into terraces, extending the beam to approximately 6.58 metres at anchor. A hardtop shelters the helm and lounge, while additional seating and sunbathing spaces occupy the bow and stern. The tested boat’s central outdoor galley incorporated a barbecue, cooktop, wet bar, refrigerator and icemaker. Removable shades supported by carbon-fibre poles provided additional protection over exposed lounging areas.

Accommodation varies substantially between boats. The original test example had a queen berth forward, with separate toilet and shower compartments. Published model information lists one to three cabins, accommodating two to six overnight guests depending on the selected layout. Two-cabin examples also appear in the resale market. Buyers therefore need to distinguish the model’s possible arrangements from the actual cabin and bathroom configuration of an individual yacht.

Standard propulsion consists of two 600 hp Volvo Penta D8-IPS800 diesel engines, delivering 1,200 hp through pod drives, with 1,900 litres of fuel capacity. Early published figures advertised speeds up to 41 knots. Power & Motoryacht measured a two-way maximum of 32 knots with full tanks and six people aboard, noting a damaged propeller. Its specification also listed twin 800 hp MAN i6 engines with Arneson drives as an alternative.

The 55 uses a composite planing hull and a lightweight carbon-fibre superstructure; published specifications quote approximately 17.5 tonnes displacement and 1.20 metres draft. The range included open and T-top Sport arrangements alongside a glazed Coupé version, whose enclosed main-deck saloon extended almost six metres. The contemporary shipyard catalogue now presents the 57 in its sport-yacht offering, while YachtBuyer identifies the 55 Sport–HT as discontinued.

Equipment and operation depend on the chosen specification. A Seakeeper 6 gyro was offered, and documented boats have hydraulic bathing platforms, generators and air conditioning. The emphasis remains on swimming, entertaining and coastal outings rather than extensive enclosed accommodation. Commercial examples operate around the French Riviera and Balearic Islands; a documented Ibiza operation uses a captain and deckhand, illustrating a crewed day-charter arrangement rather than a universal staffing requirement.
