What this boat is
The Gladiator 631, also marketed as the Canados Gladiator 631 Next, combines an open sports-yacht layout with two-cabin cruising accommodation and twin 1,000 hp Volvo Penta diesels. Its extensive outdoor seating, shaded dining area and lightweight composite structure target owners seeking fast day trips without giving up overnight comfort, with a separate crew cabin available alongside the guest accommodation.
The model in detail
Developed from late 2019 and introduced in 2021, the Gladiator 631 Next belongs to Canados’ Gladiator sports-yacht range. Naval architect Simone Cesati worked with the yard on the hull and composite engineering, while the Canados Design Team handled exterior and interior design. Measuring 19.35 metres overall with a 4.73-metre beam, it combines a low, hardtop-covered profile with accommodation intended for more than day boating.
The main deck centres on outdoor living. Three helm seats face a console with twin Garmin displays, while the hardtop shelters a dining area whose electrically operated table converts the seating into a sunpad. An island galley incorporates refrigeration, barbecue, sink and icemaker. Further seating and sunbathing space occupy the foredeck; aft, the original arrangement provides a garage for a 2.85-metre jet tender and a multifunction boarding passerelle that doubles as a swimming ladder.
Below deck, the two-cabin arrangement places a full-beam owner’s suite amidships and a VIP cabin forward, accommodating four overnight guests with two bathrooms. Between them is a saloon, originally specified with 2.40 metres of headroom, curved seating and Poltrona Frau leather. A three-cabin layout was also offered, replacing the saloon with an enclosed twin-berth cabin rather than adding another room to the same arrangement.
The launch specification pairs two 1,000 hp Volvo Penta D13 diesels with ZF 400 gearboxes and adjustable JDM 30 Special surface drives carrying five-blade propellers. Canados announced approximately 50 knots maximum, 40 knots cruising and a 460-nautical-mile range at 35 knots. These are published design figures, not a guarantee for every load condition. Fuel capacity is 2,500 litres and freshwater capacity 600 litres.
Weight reduction is central to the design. The original specification describes a naturally ventilated, triple-stepped hull, vacuum-bagged E-glass, Kevlar and carbon construction, a carbon hardtop and transom, structural tanks, and honeycomb bulkheads and furniture panels. Announced displacement was 18.5 tonnes dry and 22 tonnes fully loaded. The surface-drive trim actuators sit inside the hull, while a joystick links the rudders and bow thruster for harbour manoeuvres.
The range was initially announced with an alternative twin-900 hp shaft-drive installation; later builder literature also describes a separate, lower-decked, triple-engine 631 Record derivative. The Next remains oriented towards outdoor cruising, with two- or three-cabin choices and separate crew accommodation. Its owner-operated design brief and shaded social spaces suit fast coastal passages and Mediterranean-style use. Individual equipment varies: a publicly listed example includes gyroscopic stabilisation, air conditioning and a hydraulic bathing platform, so these should not automatically be assumed standard across production.

Frequent questions
No verifiable shipyard or launch-press base price was found for a new Gladiator 631. The public pre-owned listings checked identify one distinct yacht, advertised at €1,780,000 excluding VAT; the minimum, maximum and median therefore coincide, and duplicate advertisements are not counted separately.
For the twin-1,000 hp Volvo Penta D13 version, the launch specification gives approximately 50 knots maximum and 40 knots cruising. Published range is 460 nautical miles at the lower economic cruising speed of 35 knots, rather than at 40 knots.
The two-cabin arrangement accommodates four overnight guests in an amidships owner’s suite and forward VIP cabin, with two bathrooms. An alternative layout replaces the central saloon with a third enclosed cabin containing two beds; separate crew accommodation is also provided.
Canados explicitly developed the model for owner operation, with joystick-assisted manoeuvring linking the rudders and bow thruster. A separate crew cabin allows professional assistance, but the design brief does not establish the legal manning requirements for a particular registration or commercial operation.
The Gladiator 631 is built by Canados at Ostia, near Rome, Italy; Gladiator is the yard’s sports-yacht line. Simone Cesati is credited with hull design, with exterior and interior styling by the Canados Design Team.
Canados’ launch material quoted a target consumption of 5.5 litres per nautical mile at 35 knots, equivalent to approximately 193 litres per hour for the boat. This is a builder-published target rather than an independently verified fuel curve, and actual consumption depends on loading, conditions and operating speed.
